In using the term "Volunteering", we refer to the definition used by the United Nations and given in the Recommendations on support for volunteering from December 2001:
"In these recommendations, the terms volunteering, volunteerism and voluntary activities refer to a wide range of activities, including traditional forms of mutual aid and self-help, formal service delivery and other forms of civic participation, undertaken of free will, for the general public good and where monetary reward is not the principal motivating factor."
There has been some discussion as to whether the term volunteering is a good choice, and we decided that as long as there has not been any other decision, this website will keep to it. This website would like to be a space where people and institutions can meet, and issues around volunteering projects in our profession can be discussed. It is a first try to find out where we want to take the idea of working together.
